It is difficult to quickly, effectively and equitably process these cases. In instances like Bruce McArthur, it is obvious that more needs to be done. With the rise in social media and smartphones people often leave trails of digital information that is not readily available through conventional web searching techniques. An opportunity has been created for hackers, information security enthusiasts and law enforcement to accelerate the family reunification. How? By collecting and analyzing missing person’s digital footprint using open source intelligence (OSINT).What: DEFCON Toronto has partnered with TraceLabs to host a full day Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) event to uncover digital information on real missing person’s cases from Ontario.This full day, competitive event, will also be the precursor to the DEFCON conference in Las Vegas, the largest security conference in the world, taking place early August 2018.About DEFCON Toronto:DEFCON Toronto is a local hacker community officially recognized by DEFCON, the largest annual hacker conference in the world. Led by Nick Aleks, this community has +1500 members and schedules monthly meet-ups with cyber security professionals.About TraceLabs:Trace Labs is a nonprofit organization built to fill a need to modernize and expedite the search for missing persons.
